Promoting an Inclusive Community @ Family Fun Day 2023

The event has increased public awareness about additional needs, aka “special needs”, through interactive fun activities and workshops!
The Child Development Centre (“CDC”) had a fun-filled Sunday with families at the Family Fun Day 2023 on 15 January 2023, which was held in the public open space at 7 Mallory Street, Wan Chai. Over 150 families joined the interactive game booths that aimed to help the public understand some challenges that children with additional needs face daily. The games were ‘I Spy with Sunglasses’, ‘Charades Telephone’, ‘Balance Beam’ and ‘Kicking a Ball’, which allowed participants to experience how it may feel to have challenges with language, attention, gross-motor movements and visual-perception. In addition,  two parent-child workshops encouraged families to make a unique sensory bottle/bag or a stamp painting together! Both of them provided sensory experiences to soothe children, so they are able to be calm and focused again.
Developmental screening by psychologists
Apart from the activities that were run by our teachers and therapists, we also set up a booth for parents who were concerned about their children’s development to participate in a screening conducted by our psychologists. Many parents also came by seeking some advice or guidance regarding their child’s development.  Through the screening and brief consultations, we were able to help these parents understand if their child is developing as expected or if further assessment is necessary. A heartfelt thank you to the Labour and Welfare Bureau for funding the event and the Urban Renewal Authority for sponsoring the venue. We are grateful that the event received tremendous support and hope that those who attended found it useful, informative and enjoyable!
