The Child Development Centre (CDC) uniquely provides, amongst Hong Kong’s special educational needs (SEN) organisations, support to the widest spectrum of SEN issues in English and Chinese. The CDC is a leading community of professionals, parents and volunteers who are the voice and vision of special needs education. This also means that we are often the last hope for our children and their families who have no place else to go.
We have been helping Hong Kong’s special needs community since 1976. With the opening of our Wanchai Centre and expansion of services to include Chinese in 2010, we have been able to serve 277 students and their families – an 80+% increase!
The CDC’s teacher to student ratio of 1:3 is five times that of typical schools whose ratio is some 1:15 and higher, so special needs education costs are accordingly higher. We were the first to integrate typical and special needs children into group sessions in Hong Kong.
Our Beliefs & Values
The CDC believes in creating, nurturing and sustaining an environment in which the following core values are embraced:
We believe that sound research is the guiding principle behind our service delivery, and the commitment and excellence of our staff is the core of our success; and to sustain this we support their professionalism and cultivate their long-term commitment.
We respect the rights of our donors, regardless of the size of their gifts, therefore we believe in full accountability and transparency in all of our activities and programmes.
